Why we love it
Two Olympics, the Cresta Run and famously sunny Engadin days. Wide, perfectly groomed slopes on Corviglia, steeper stuff on Corvatsch — and plenty of glamour in between.
Getting there
Zurich Airport is the closest major airport, about 200 km and three hours by road. By train, take the Rhaetian Railway from Chur over the UNESCO-listed Albula line, or ride the Glacier Express from Zermatt. Engadin Airport in Samedan handles private jets.
Who it's for
St. Moritz works for every level. Corviglia has wide, perfectly groomed slopes for beginners and intermediates, Corvatsch has steeper runs and Switzerland's longest floodlit piste, and Diavolezza offers glacier skiing with an off-piste descent over the Morteratsch glacier.
Best time to go
January to March is the best time, with cold, dry snow and lots of sunshine. February brings events on the frozen lake like the White Turf horse races. Corvatsch and Diavolezza go up above 3,000 m, so the snow stays good well into spring.
