Why we love it

Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Highlands and Buttermilk — from first turns to the Highland Bowl hike. Colorado champagne powder and a town with real history.

Getting there

Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is just a few kilometres from town, with direct flights from Denver and other US hubs. Eagle County Airport is about 1.5 hours away. Denver is around 3.5 to 4 hours by road, since Independence Pass is closed in winter. Free RFTA buses link the town with all four mountains.

Who it's for

There's something for everyone across the four mountains. Buttermilk is ideal for beginners and home of the X Games, Snowmass has huge amounts of intermediate terrain, Aspen Mountain is all intermediate and expert runs right above town, and Aspen Highlands has the famous hike to Highland Bowl for advanced skiers.

Best time to go

January to March has the best snow, with February often bringing the deepest powder. Late January is busy with the X Games at Buttermilk, and the holiday weeks around Christmas and Presidents' Day are the most crowded and expensive. March brings sunny spring skiing.
