Why we love it

The most feared downhill on the World Cup, a medieval town centre and one of the longest seasons in the Alps. Cruisers for everyone, and the Hahnenkamm for those who dare.

Getting there

Salzburg and Innsbruck are the closest airports, both about 80 to 100 km and just over an hour by road. Munich is around two hours away. Kitzbühel is on the main railway line between Innsbruck and Salzburg, and the Hahnenkamm gondola is a short walk from the station.

Who it's for

Kitzbühel is great for intermediates and mixed groups, with long, scenic runs across the Hahnenkamm, Pengelstein and Resterhöhe. Beginners can learn on the gentle slopes at Gaisberg in Kirchberg and around Pass Thurn. Advanced skiers can take on the Streif or ski some of the off-piste routes.

Best time to go

January to March has the best conditions. Kitzbühel's slopes are fairly low, so the resort relies on snowmaking, but it usually opens in October on the high Resterkogel. Come in late January for the Hahnenkamm races, one of the biggest events in the skiing calendar.
